Māori have always known and benefited from the special qualities of the Mānuka plant. Today, Mānuka honey is now widely regarded as one of the most unique and beneficial forms of honey in the world. The reason for this is the presence of methylglyoxal, a sugar molecule, which, although is also found in ‘normal honey’, its level in Mānuka honey can be up to one hundred times stronger.
Our Mānuka honey is usually dark and amber in colour, it is a strong flavoured honey with aromatic woody, nutty characteristics and intense caramel notes. With a damp earth, heather scent, it has a medium sweetness and a slightly bitter medicinal after taste.
